Huawei announced on January 15 a £20 million investment plan to encourage British and Irish developers to integrate applications into the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem.
The first Huawei UK and Ireland developer conference was held in London on Wednesday. At the event, Huawei showed British companies the opportunities brought by the HMS, including direct access to Huawei's latest hardware and leading artificial intelligence technology.
In May last year, after the US Department of Commerce included Huawei in the entity list, Google stopped providing GMS services to Huawei's new mobile phones. Huawei HMS is designed to replace Google GMS.
At present, Huawei's HMS system has 600 million active users in more than 170 countries, and 72 million European users, including the United Kingdom.
Previously, Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said that the construction and development of the HMS ecosystem is a necessary condition for overseas sales of smart terminals.
In 2020, Huawei must fully build the HMS ecosystem, support the sale of smartphones overseas, and promote innovation of application partners, he said.
