Huawei, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, and OPPO are the top 3 Chinese companies in the number of invention patents granted in 2019 in China, Hu Wenhui, a spokesperson for the State Intellectual Property Office said on Tuesday.
In 2019, Huawei obtained 4,510 invention patent authorizations, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation obtained 2,883, and OPPO obtained 2,614.
In 2019, the number of invention patent applications in China was 1.401 million. A total of 453,000 invention patents were authorized. Among them, 361,000 Chinese invention patents were authorized.
By the end of 2019, China had a total of 1.862 million invention patents, with 13.3 invention patents per 10,000 people.
The top three provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in terms of patent ownership per 10,000 people in China are: Beijing (132.0), Shanghai (53.5) and Jiangsu (30.2).
In 2018, China patents application reached a record 1.54 million, nearly half of all the patent applications filed worldwide, according to a report in October.
It was the first time that China leaped ahead of the U.S., which came in at a distant second place with 597,141 applications for patents to protect its intellectual property.
Most of the share of these applications was in the field of telecommunications and computer technology, said World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
In comparison to 2017, Chinaโs share has increased by 11.6%.
