Sogou input method announced today that it has recently released version 10.3, adding the earthquake warning function. This made Sogou become the world's first input method to access the earthquake warning system.
Users with Sogou input method installed on their mobile phones only need to turn on the "earthquake warning" option in the settings, and they can receive earthquake warning notifications when an earthquake affecting the user occurs in the surrounding area.
Earthquake early warning information includes the estimated arrival time of the earthquake transverse wave, the degree of influence on the user, the location of the epicenter, the magnitude of the early warning, and the number of kilometers from the epicenter to the user.
This function has been launched in more than 20 provinces and municipalities in China and it is expected to be launched nationwide in the future.
Earthquake early warning is to use the principle that radio waves are faster than earthquake waves when an earthquake occurs, so as to alert the users around the epicenter several seconds to several tens of seconds before the earthquake waves arrive.
Earthquake early warning has the function of helping people escape, avoid danger, and inform and stabilize people. Taking risk aversion as an example, with the early warning system, early warnings can be received, the decision-making time is reduced, and the risk aversion time will be increased.
The research data show that a warning time of 3 seconds can reduce the casualty ratio by 14%; a warning time of 10 seconds can reduce the casualty ratio by 39%; a warning time of 20 seconds can reduce the casualty ratio by 63%.
