Huawei will be the second customer of Samsung Display's foldable mobile phone panel after Samsung Electronics as the company has started developing foldable OLED panels for Huawei's new foldable smartphones to be released in the second half of the year, Electronic Times reported citing industry sources.
Huawei's first foldable phone, the Mate X, uses panels made by LG Display and BOE. However, due to BOE's quality and quantity reasons, Huawei intends to cooperate with Samsung Display, the report said.
After the launch of Galaxy Fold, Samsung Display began to discuss cooperation with major Chinese mobile phone manufacturers to supply foldable OLEDs.
At present, Huawei, OPPO and Vivo are cooperating phones of many mobile phone manufacturers. But because of its strategic focus on Samsung Electronics' foldable phones, it was forced to delay sales.
"If Huawei gets initial shipments from Samsung Display and increases production, we will use BOE as an additional supplier." "We need to pay attention to market changes caused by the panel supply chain," the Insider said.
