Huawei's chip arm HiSilicon has finally started to supply chips to outside companies other than just Huawei, according to EE Times.
Previously, the company only provided chip products to Huawei, but during the recent ELEXCON 2019 electronics show in Shenzhen, HiSilicon released the first 4G communication chip for the open market.
The report said that Shanghai HiSilicon, a Huawei subsidiary established in April last year, will sell its chip products on the open market. On the other hand, Shenzhen HiSilicon will be responsible for supplying chips to its parent company.
In addition to selling chips in the open market, HiSilicon also changed the names of some product lines, expanded its business, and entered several new market segments.
The company's camera product line is currently known as Smart Vision and will soon expand from the professional security surveillance field to a wider range of perceptual computing products, designed specifically for consumer and automotive electronics.
The company has also integrated its set-top box with the TV product line to become the Smart Media product line, which will now also focus on full-screen smart terminals and smart home centers.
In addition, the company is expanding its connectivity business and has established three business incubation groups. These groups include a display group focusing on large, medium and small screen devices, a car electronics group targeting the connected car market, and a robotics group.
