As the global mobile phone shipments slow down, 5G has brought new hope. Many people in the industry have said that the arrival of the 5G era will lead to a new wave of phone replacements, however, Wu Qiang of OPPO does not seem to think so.
On December 26, OPPO released dual-mode 5G mobile phones, the OPPO Reno3 series, which are OPPO's first 5G mobile phones in China.
After the event, Wu Qiang, vice president of OPPO, said in an interview with the media that 4G has to some extent met the daily needs of the vast majority of users' scenarios. At this stage, there is still not much use scenarios for 5G.
With the improvement of operator's 5G network construction, the sales speed of 5G mobile phones will be faster. But consumers won't have to switch to another phone just because they have 5G, he said.
"There are totally different motives to change devices, one is active, and the other is passive. I think that at least from 2020, there will be no particularly large-scale active wave of device replacement." Wu Qiang said.
According to OPPO's plan, in the first half of next year, OPPO's new products in the Chinese market at prices above 3,000 yuan will support 5G.
According to the maturity and development route of the entire 5G resources and technology, it is expected that 5G products will be launched in the price range of 2,000-3,000 yuan next summer.
"At the end of next year, that is, at this time next year, there will be 5G products between the price range of 1000-2000 yuan. As the technology matures and the entire industrial chain continues to mature, the average unit price of 5G smart terminals will gradually increase. Popularization, the price difference between 5G and 4G products will gradually narrow. "Wu Qiang said.
