China saw 27.15 million wearable device shipments in the third quarter of 2019, an increase of 45.2% year-on-year. Xiaomi, Huawei, and Apple occupied the top three spots, according to a report released by IDC on Tuesday.
The large-scale shipment of Xiaomi Band 4 helped the company stay in the top position. Huawei is still the fastest growing vendor in this quarter thanks to the newly launched Huawei Band 4e and children's watches. Apple Watches and earbuds are showing significant growth.
IDC said that with the summer and semester of the third quarter, BBK's Xiaotiancai ushered in the peak season of children's watches, ranking first in the children's watch market.
After the acquisition of Kido, Qihoo 360 still ships 360 as the mainstay brand and currently ranks fifth.
IDC predicts that by 2023, China's wearable device market shipments will be close to 200 million units. Ear-worn wearable devices and wrist-wearable devices (bands and watches) will become the mainstream form of the market in the future, and ear-wearable devices will occupy half of the overall market in the future.
In terms of features, the LTE version will gradually increase. IDC expects that by 2023, 28% of adult watches will have independent communication functions, and headsets will gradually be equipped with independent computing chips.
IDC claims that wearable devices will be more connected to the IoT ecological platform, and provide users with a seamless connection experience anytime, anywhere by connecting with home, mobile and in-vehicle smart devices.
