Due to the increase in mid-range smartphones priced between $300 and $500, AMOLED smartphone sales will exceed 600 million units by the end of 2020, an increase of 46% year-on-year, according to Counterpoint's report.
In the latest report, researchers from Counterpoint said that the top five smartphone brands will account for more than 80% of total AMOLED smartphone sales.
Among them, Samsung still maintains the leading position, which will account for 45% of total AMOLED smartphone sales in 2019, followed by Apple (16%) and OPPO (11%).
But several other companies also launched flagship products equipped with AMOLED panels in 2019.
It is worth noting that Chinese manufacturers led by Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi have now adopted OLED panels in their mid-range product portfolio ($ 300 to $ 500), which is also one of the main reasons for the growth of AMOLED smartphones in the future.
Counterpoint expects that these brands may further promote AMOLED smartphones to their product portfolio under $ 200 in 2020. And Apple may also introduce OLED panels for more products in the next release cycle. These factors will further drive the growth of AMOLED smartphones in 2020.
Counterpoint also said that although AMOLED smartphones are the top choice for brands, the growth also largely depends on the capacity of panel makers.
