Three sedan drivers trying to smuggle iPhones into the mainland were captured by Shenzhen Customs on December 18, the Chinese General Administration of Customs said Monday evening.
They were carrying a total of 109 new Apple iPhones and 261 used iPhones with a value of about 1.75 million yuan. At present, all three cases have been transferred to the customs anti-smuggling department.
Shenzhen Evening News reported that after the abnormality of the machine inspection image was detected, customs staff found the iPhones hidden inside the mezzanine at the bottom of the armrest box of their car, between the left front wheel rear fender and the left front door.
There have been many cases of cell phone smuggling. On November 29, Shenzhen Customs seized 167 iPhones of various types, with a value of about 700,000 yuan, in a special dark cell of an inbound freight car battery box.
