Sogou recently released an input tool called "Diandian Input", which is designed for users who are not convenient to use the keyboard and can only use the mouse, touchpad, and touch screen for typing.
Sogou said that the product came out of a Weibo for help. On November 13, a Weibo user posted a request for help on Weibo, hoping that someone could help her crack a special input method software.
The user, Fang Yu, suffered from hand, foot, and throbbing cerebral palsy due to an accident, and only his feet could move around his body. For more than a decade, she has used a special input method, controlled the mouse with her feet, and wrote a blog of more than 100,000 words.
However, because the two people who developed the software have died of cancer one after another, this input tool has not been updated anymore, and Fang Yu can no longer type after updating the computer.
On November 16th, Sogou CEO Wang Xiaochuan forwarded Fang Yu Weibo, saying "Sogou will continue to develop this software to help more people."
After that, the Sogou team contacted the developer's family and purchased a patent for this product. After refactoring the original code to make a new version, it was given to Fang Yu for trial, collecting feedback and adjusting and optimizing the product. This product is currently available and is called "Diandian Input".
Data show that there are more than 6 million patients with cerebral palsy in China, and 46,000 new children are added each year. In addition, there are more than 85 million special groups in China.
The Sogou input method team said that in the future, they will continue to optimize these products so that barrier-free input can help more and more special populations, so that they can enter as smoothly as normal people.
