Huawei‘s Smart Screen TV with the model number “OSCA-550Y” has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, according to information of the website of Wi-Fi Alliance on November 19.
Huawei’s smart TVs are available in 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch models. The certified model number hints that it is likely the 55-inch model.
Besides that, the smart TV listing shows it runs Huawei’s own Harmony OS just like the variant launched in China.
The Huawei Smart Screen was first announced in Germany at IFA but has yet to go on sale anywhere outside China.
The Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth certifications which the device got a few days earlier are indicators that the Smart Screen may soon go on sale in the global market, especially in Europe.
In August this year, Huawei announced its first Harmony OS-powered devices: a pair of smart TVs called the Honor Vision and Honor Vision Pro.
Harmony OS is Huawei’s big attempt to decrease its reliance on Google’s Android operating system.
Since Google suspended Huawei’s Android license back in May, the company has been open about its plans to develop an alternative operating system, although it says that Harmony OS has been in development for over two years.
Eventually, Harmony OS will run on everything from wearables to PCs and tablets, but for now Huawei says its focus is on “smart screens” like this.
Although Huawei has indicated that the OS is ready to run on phones, it has said that it plans to continue using Android for its own smartphones for the time being.
