Lenovo: we are all in 5G

Embracing the 5G era, Chinese tech giant Lenovo declares “All In.”

Lenovo is all in 5G in China from now on and future smartphones it plans to roll out will all support the next generation ultra-fast network, a company executive said Friday while announcing a new variant of the Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G in Beijing.

However, this does not necessarily mean Lenovo will immediately stop selling 4G smartphones. The company will not have inventories of 4G phones by the first half of next year, said Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo China Consumption Department.

Chen said Lenovo’s 4G phone inventories were not high, which allows them to be aggressive on pricing to move on fast.

“Lenovo will not roll out new 4G products, but this does not mean we will abandon 4G overnight,” he said.

The company released the Z6 Pro 5G in Beijing on Friday. The phone features a Snapdragon 855 SoC and offers a large 6.39-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display.

The phone is the currently cheapest 5G smartphone yet in China, with a starting price of 3,299 yuan ($470) for the model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
