The much anticipated Mate X, Huawei’s first foldable phone, was sold out in the first minute after it became available to customers in China.
The sales of the device started at 10:08 am Beijing time at Huawei’s online store. Huawei didn’t reveal how many of the device were sold. Latest information showed it will become available again at 10:08 am on November 22.
The Mate X created plenty of fanfare recently. But as the iconic Galaxy Fold from Samsung faced continuous difficulties in mass production people were also wondering at what degree can Huawei solve this problem.
Just two days before customers can finally buy the device, a report from 163.com on Wednesday said the date would be delayed again. The report didn’t give further details.
Responding to this, Huawei said on Thursday the sales of Mate X in China will go as scheduled on November 15.
The Mate X is a 5G phone with Huawei's Kirin 980 processor and Barong 5000 modem.
It has a dual-cell 4,500mAh battery that can be filled to 85 percent in half an hour with 55W fast charging.
While it's flat, the screen is 8 inches, and when it's closed it's like having a phone with a 6.6-inch screen on the front and a 6.38-inch panel on the back.
The device carry a big price tag of 16,999 yuan ($2,400) for a model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
Currently it is only available in China and there is no timetable as to when it will be launched in global markets.
"So far, Huawei has made the Huawei Mate X available in the China market on Nov 15. A global launch plan is under review." said a spokesman for Huawei.
