As we already knew, the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Fold will hit the Chinese market on Friday. Today, the price is unveiled by Samsung and it just undercut the Mate X from Huawei.
At the China International Import Expo held in Shanghai, Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold will be available to Chinese customers on November 8 for 15,999 yuan ($2290).
The pre-registration of buying intention for the Galaxy Fold had started on November 6, according to information from the website of Samsung China.
After the limited sales on November 8, Samsung will again offer the device to Chinese customers on November 11, when the “Single's Day” shopping spree goes to the highest level.
The Galaxy Fold available will come with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. The colors offered are black and silver.
Samsung didn’t reveal the price information on its website and the ad banner places only question marks on it back then. But today, the question marks were replaced by the price tag.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold in February with a price tag of $1980 for the international market. But due to a series of problems, it didn't fully launch the phone until september.
The price in China higher than global markets but it is not surprising as major phone makers in China have similar price tags for their foldable devices.
However, it does seem interesting because the Galaxy Fold is 1000 yuan cheaper than Huawei’s Mate X.
At a launch event held in Shenzhen on October 23, Huawei announced the Mate X will be available from November 15 at 16,999 yuan ($2,400) for a model with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
"Our strategy is based on carriers' 5G roll out in different regions," said a spokesman for Huawei. "So far, Huawei has made the Huawei Mate X available in the China market on Nov 15. A global launch plan is under review."
