Hours before Xiaomi launches its first-ever smartwatch, the Mi Smartwatch, there are rumors circulating about its successor.
According to twitter user @TechytMr, the second Mi Smartwatch will be called the Xiaomi Watch Pro, and most importantly the device will have a circular touchscreen face.
The twit also claimed the Xiaomi Watch Pro will not arrive until a couple of months after the launch of the standard mode.
If this turns out to be true, it will mark a huge difference from the upcoming Mi Smartwatch, which has a rectangular touchscreen face with rounded corners and slated for release on November 5 in China.
The shape of standard mode looked a lot like the Apple Watch not only because of the dail, but also due to a lookalike rotating ridged crown button for scrolling, which is also located above a similar-looking pill-shaped button on the right side of the watch.
In a story published last week, The Verge commented on this:
Although the Xiaomi watchโs face is a little thicker and less rounded than the current Apple Watch Series 5 and the straps arenโt as sleek, you could still easily mistake it for an Apple Watch.
In what appeared to be aiming for addressing this doubt, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun posted a โhardcore explanationโ on Weibo on November 4, saying a circular shape as used by almost all other Android phone makers cannot meet usersโ demand whether itโs being user experience or interfacing.
He also said a rectangular shape will display more effective information that a circular shape.
If the Xiaomi Watch Pro finally choose to use a circular shape, how will he explain again?
