Massive leaks show the pop-up selfie camera used by the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro could be replaced on the OnePlus 8 Pro with a hole-punch notch.
Unofficial renders based on information provided by tipster OnLeaks revealed that there is a fourth sensor on the back of the next OnePlus flagship — a 3D time-of-flight sensor for depth-sensing, according to 91mobiles.
Earlier this month, renders from CashKaro and OnLeaks show the OnePlus 8 very much like existing OnePlus devices, and there is one notable change: there's a hole-punch camera instead of a notch or pop-up.
It seems as though the OnePlus 8 will be the first mainline OnePlus device to come with a truly curved 6.5-inch display. It won't, however, include the pop-up selfie camera, instead, it will come with a selfie camera hidden within an upper-left punch-hole display notch.
Now according to the latest leaks, the OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to have a 6.65-inch display instead of the 6.5-inch screen seen on the OnePlus 8.
The OnePlus 7T Pro still has the biggest display in the lineup, featuring a 6.67-inch unit. The company has already confirmed a standard 90Hz refresh rate on all future smartphones.
It is safe to assume that the 8 Pro will not miss out on the action. The smartphone could be fueled by the upcoming Snapdragon 865 flagship chipset.
On the back, the three primary lenses are placed in a vertical alignment with the 3D depth sensor positioned next to the unit, along with a few other undisclosed sensors.
An LED flash module completes the setup. The OnePlus logo is etched right below the camera module. The left edge features the volume rockers while the power button and alert slider are positioned on the right edge.
The OnePlus 8 Pro does not feature revolutionary design changes. People hoping to upgrade to the OnePlus 8 lineup next year will have to stay content with the quad-camera setup and the 3D ToF (depth sensor) for now.
OnePlus might introduce 5G capabilities from the 8-series. The 7T Pro currently misses out on the 5G spectrum.
It was an odd omission, especially since OnePlus was so eager to release a 5G device so early in the technology’s lifecycle, The Verge noted.
Speaking to reporters at the OnePlus 7T Pro’s announcement event in London last week, Lau suggested that the company simply hasn’t seen enough of an opportunity to launch a second 5G device.
“It’s not related to a Pro series or T-series or another device that certainly must have 5G,” the CEO said. “It’s more looking at what are the circumstances and what’s a suitable opportunity to build a 5G device.”
