Phone shipments in China went down 7.1 percent year on year to 36.236 million units in September, official data showed Saturday. That number was up 17.4 percent from August.
Smartphone shipments went down 5.7 percent to 34.683 million units, accounting for 95.7 percent of the total. Android phones’ share was 85.1 percent, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
Notably, a total of 90 new models went on sale in September, down 1.1 from the same period of last year. Most of the new models were 4G phones with a total of 59. There were 9 5G phones, accounting for 10%; and there were also 22 2G phones in the new models released.
A total of 68 smartphones went on sale in September, down 4.2 percent from last year and accounting for 75.6 percent of the total. Only 3 of them are not Android phones.
