Vivo has become the latest Chinese manufacturer to announce smartphone price increases, highlighting the impact of surging supply chain costs on the broader industry.

Driven by the continued sharp rise in global semiconductor and memory costs, Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO will adjust the suggested retail prices of select products starting March 18, according to a statement on Monday.

The brief statement from Vivo did not provide further details. The company became the latest smartphone giant to join the wave of price hikes.

On the same day as Vivo's official announcement, Oppo and its sub-brand OnePlus formally raised the prices of several older models on Monday. The adjustments primarily affect select released products under the A series, K series, and the OnePlus brand, while high-end flagship series remain unaffected for now.

Retail prices for several popular models, including the OnePlus 15 and Oppo K13 Turbo, have increased by 500 yuan ($71).

Handset makers are currently facing margin pressure, as surging demand for artificial intelligence servers leads to a persistent global shortage of memory chips.

Procurement costs for smartphone memory chips have surged more than 80% compared to the same period last year, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down, local media outlet China Star Market reported last month.

Other major brands, including Xiaomi and Honor, are feeling the same pressure, with Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi already raising official prices for select models earlier this month.

With frequent fluctuations in memory costs, the Chinese smartphone market in 2026 may face an unprecedented scenario of multiple price increases within a single year.

Surging AI computing demand has driven global memory chip prices to record highs, pushing retail prices of some Lenovo PC models up by more than 1,000 yuan ($144).
