Alibaba has invested nearly RMB 3.4 billion ($530 million) in the fight against Covid-19 over the past year, donating a total of 200 million items in China and 150 other countries, the Chinese e-commerce giant said.
The "health code" developed by Alipay was rolled out from Hangzhou to the whole country, and the system built by Ali Cloud to fight Covid-19 has covered 28 provinces and cities, according to a social responsibility report released by the company.
In April 2020, Alibaba helped more than 2,000 industrial zones in 20 provinces and cities to "digitize" and help SMEs to develop in domestic and international markets.
The report also shows that 832 poverty-stricken counties have achieved RMB 270 billion in merchandise sales through Alibaba's platform from December 2017 to December 2020, and over 1 million people participate in public welfare through the platform provided by Alibaba every day.
In 2020, sales of agricultural products on Alibaba's platform reached RMB 303.7 billion, continuing to be the "largest agricultural products sales platform," the report said.
Since Alibaba established the Poverty Alleviation Fund in December 2017, 832 poverty-stricken counties have sold more than RMB 270 billion of goods on Alibaba's platform by the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, in 2020, nearly 1,000 Alibaba digital agriculture bases and over 1,000 Taobao county express co-distribution centers have landed in China, delivering 1 million tons of fresh agricultural products annually.
In its financial year 2021, Taobao and Alipay drove 2.5 million merchants and hundreds of millions of consumers to raise more than RMB 2 billion for about 3,200 charity projects through transactions of charity goods or direct donations.
Relying on these donations, 3 million people have been helped, 120,000 teachers and students in more than 200 rural schools have used water purification devices, and 100,000 rural school children have professional music classrooms, the report said.
