Ant Group's in-house database OceanBase said to be open source soon

OceanBase, the database of Alibaba's fintech company Ant Group, will be open-source soon, possibly as early as June 1, according to Sina Tech.

Database developers will be able to download and experience OceanBase source code through OceanBase's official website, GitHub, and other channels.

This will be a key step in OceanBase's evolution from closed-source software sales to an open-source business model.

Ant Group registered and took 100% ownership of OceanBase for RMB100 million ($15.7 million) on June 1 last year through new investment, and the database is now officially operating independently as a company.

In the latest data analytics benchmarking (TPC-H) list recently released by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC), OceanBase ranked first with a total performance score of 15.26 million QphH for 30,000GB, more than 10 times higher than the second-place Microsoft SQLServer.
