China's IC sales up 17 percent to $135 billion last year

China's integrated circuit (IC) industry sales rose 17 percent to RMB 884.8 billion ($135 billion) last year, the China Semiconductor Industry Association reported in a March 25 release.

Sales in the IC design industry were RMB 377.84 billion, up 23.3 percent year-on-year. Manufacturing sales were RMB 256.01 billion, up 19.1 percent year-on-year. Packaging and testing industry sales were RMB 250.95 billion, up 6.8% year-on-year.

The design industry accounted for nearly 43% in 2020, an increase of about 3 percentage points year-on-year. The manufacturing industry will account for 29% of the total, essentially flat year-on-year. The packaging and testing industry accounted for about 28%, down about 3 percentage points year-on-year.

Influenced by home office learning, the global semiconductor market sales in 2020 were $439 billion, up 6.5% year-on-year, according to World Semiconductor Trade Statistics.

China imported 543.5 billion integrated circuits in 2020, an increase of 22.1% year-on-year. The import value was $350.04 billion, up 14.6% year-on-year, according to China Customs.
