Microsoft will soon release an online similarity checker for Word editors to help users improve their writing style.
As part of a Microsoft 365 update previewed in March, the new feature will be pushed to Education subscribers before being distributed to Home and Enterprise subscribers.
The feature, powered by Bing, displays a similarity ratio for document content and makes it easier to insert corresponding citations.

Combined with similarity detection and citation tools, students can not only avoid plagiarism checks, but also improve their collaboration effectiveness.
Mike Tholfsen of the Microsoft Education team explains that this feature also helps writers focus less on the craft of writing and more on the content itself.
The feature is currently only available for English text and will be gradually released to Microsoft 365 Education Edition customers.
