Some OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone users are experiencing issues with not being able to watch Netflix HD videos properly, according to a report on OnePlus' official forum.
Citing a user named Nicolas, the Android Authority said the problem seems to have started with version 15.5.5. However, after moving up to 15.5.6, some users still reported experiencing problems.
Also the earliest report on the forum dates back to May 2, meaning the issue has been going on for a long time.
The official complaint indicates that OnePlus 8 Pro phone users found that they could only watch Netflix video content at the standard definition (SD) level, while problems were found with the Widevine DRM (Digital Rights Protection) feature.
As Widevine is downgraded from L1 to L3, the device is unable to stream HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) content.
For owners who want to get the best out of the OnePlus 8 Pro's gorgeous screen, it's a no-brainer.
Widevine is a service built by Google to provide the platform side with a full range of resource encryption and hardware security, with consumer devices being just the last link in video content distribution.
The technology is now widely used by streaming providers such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for its ability to effectively prevent users from accessing unauthorized content.
The problem now, however, is that even legitimate users were turned away from Widevine (mistakenly believing them to be unauthorized) by the unknown bug that hit the OnePlus 8 Pro.
