Honor confirmed today that the Honor Play4 series will support infrared temperature measurement, confirming previous speculation and is set to become the first phone to have such feature.

Honor Play Series product manager @้Ÿฆ้ช้พ™Raul posted a video of the Honor Play4 series at Weibo. Judging by the video, the Honor Play4 series can take the temperature of not only people and animals, but also objects.

This also makes the Honor Play4 the only phone currently available with a temperature measurement function.

Judging by the video, the Honor Play4 series phones' back IR camera can be accurately measured by simply pointing it at the forehead and displaying the temperature on the screen.

In addition to taking the temperature of a person, the Honor Play4 series can also take the temperature of an animal, such as a cat, with the same accuracy.

It can even measure the temperature of the ice cream. That is, it can measure not only high temperatures, but also low temperatures with the same accuracy.

Previously revealed spy shots of the real camera show that the Honor Play4 series is divided into two versions, Honor Play4 and Honor Play4 Pro.

The Honor Play4 Pro is expected to be powered by a Kirin 990 SoC with 5G and performance. And the standard model, the Play 4, will be powered by a Dimensity 800 series processor at a much lower price.

Aside from the processor, the two models have different photo schemes, the Honor Play4 Pro may debut an infrared camera that supports body temperature measurement, while the Honor Play4 has a vertical quad camera scheme.

The Honor Play4 Pro back camera area, in addition to the normal camera, has a lens-like opaque device that should be the infrared sensor.

Infrared technology is a commonly used non-contact temperature measurement technique (reference foreheat gun) that calculates the temperature by measuring the infrared energy emitted by the object itself.

It is with this infrared sensor that the Honor Play4 Pro is able to achieve infrared temperature measurement.

The Honor Play4 series may still be a surprise in terms of price, given the Play series' previous cost-effective features.

The Honor Play4 series is currently available for pre-order at Huawei Vmall and it will be released on June 3.
