Due to the impact of the Covid-19 on the supply chain and consumer demand, global tablet shipments fell 12% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020, according to Strategy Analytics' latest report.
Strategy Analytics Internet equipment analyst Eric Smith said, in the overall market decline, some tablet suppliers market performance.
Among them, Lenovo tablet shipments achieved a 2% growth for the third consecutive quarter, Apple shipments fell 3% year-on-year, Samsung shipments fell 2%, in sharp contrast to the overall market decline of 12%.
In addition to the three above, the other two of the global top5 tablet vendors, Huawei and Amazon, are in an even worse situation. In the first quarter, Huawei tablet shipments fell 15 percent from a year ago. Amazon, on the other hand, had a 9 percent decline.
Chirag Upadhyay, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, added that consumer demand will be depressed in the second quarter of 2020 as the various responses to the COVID-19 outbreak hamper economic activity.
However, there is evidence that large companies and educational institutions are trying to increase productivity during people's isolation, and the need to work and study from home will benefit some tablet providers, he said.
