Chinese drone maker DJI today released the Mavic Air 2, which is a larger and heavier version of the Mavic Air with a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor and increased range to 34 minutes at 4999 yuan.
This is also the first time after two years that DJI has updated its Mavic Air product line.
The Mavic Air 2 continues the folding structure of the Imperial series, but with increased volume and weight compared to its predecessor.
Measuring 12mm longer and nearly 28mm wider than its predecessor, the Mavic Air 2 weighs 570g, which is 140g heavier than the Mavic Air. The unfolded volume is also significantly larger than the Mavic Air.
The DJI Mavic Air 2 is equipped with a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor that can take 48-megapixel photos, support recording 4K/60fps video and 8K mobile time-lapse video; 34 minutes of range time and up to 10 kilometers of HD digital graphical range; P-speed up to 43km/h and a maximum flight speed of 19m/s in the Sport mode.
More interestingly, the Mavic Air 2 incorporates Intelligent Photo Mode, which includes three technologies - Scene Recognition, Pure Night Shot, and HD - that focus on intelligent identification of aerial scenes and algorithm optimization for different scenes.
Intelligent flight capabilities have also skyrocketed, including APAS 3.0, Focus Follow, and more. APAS 3.0, for example, is turned on by default in normal mode P. It can determine and plan new paths based on obstacles. The new Focus Follow offers three modes: Focus 2.0, Smart Follow 3.0, and Point of Interest Around 3.0.
The Mavic Air 2 still features a folding remote that needs to be paired with a smartphone to use it. But this time the remote has a new design, a bigger turn than the traditional Imperial series remote, and the clamping structure has been changed to the top.
The Mavic Air 2 has a wealth of smart creation tools, including one-touch 8K time-lapse photography, HDR panorama, smart selfies, one-touch short films, and a built-in DJI Mimo editor.
Taken together, the Mavic Air 2 is definitely a qualitative improvement over the Mavic Air, and its weight is not wasted.
The Mavic Air 2 is now on sale at DJI Official Mall, Jingdong, Tmall, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou flagship stores and authorized offline experience stores.
Mavic Air 2 Standard Edition includes flight, 1 battery, remote control, and other accessories, priced at 4999Yuan, and the smooth flight set includes a shoulder bag, 2 spare batteries, 1 set of ND filters, and other accessories, priced at 6699 yuan.
