The new coronavirus is probably the most difficult virus currently found in humans. It spreads quickly, has fewer symptoms, and has a longer incubation period. Now it has been found to have a new way of potential infection.
On March 28, Ning Guang, the director of China Ruijin Hospital, revealed at the "Seminar on Basic Research and Prevention of Virus Evolution, Evolution, and Transmission" that virus erosion and sexual transmission were found on the spermatogenic cells of patients with new coronavirus pneumonia. It may also be one of the routes of transmission of the new coronavirus.
Prior to this, research on the effects of new coronaviruses on male fertility has attracted attention.
First, Professor Li Yufeng's team at the Center for Reproductive Medicine of Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology once speculated based on the theory that the new coronavirus may cause testicular damage, affect sperm production and androgen synthesis, and then affect male fertility. However, their paper was subsequently withdrawn.
However, Zhang Ming, associate professor of Reproductive Medicine Center of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, recently found that serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and prolactin were significantly increased in male patients with new coronary pneumonia, and the ratios of testosterone and follicle-stimulating hormone to LH were significantly reduced.
Research suggests that although semen parameters are a direct reflection of gonad function, changes in the above-mentioned indicators provide the first indirect clinical evidence for a new type of coronavirus to attack testicular function.
