For the first time, Samsung Electronics' shareholder meeting this year will use electronic voting to help curb the spread of a new coronavirus.
Samsung's shareholders meeting this year will be held on March 18 at a conference center in Suwon, about 30 kilometers south of Seoul. The conference center can accommodate up to about 3,000 people.
Samsung's investor relations website urged shareholders on Monday to take advantage of the plan to vote via the Internet by March 17.
Following the guidance of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Samsung specifically calls on the following shareholders to conduct electronic voting, including shareholders with symptoms or shareholders who have visited areas of high risk, or those identified as high risk, such as pregnant women and those over 65 people.
Samsung's investor relations website said that the shareholders' meeting will be equipped with thermal cameras and non-contact thermometers, and shareholders with fever or cough symptoms may be restricted from entering.
Those who were found fever at the scene will be directed away from the hall.
SK Hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker after Samsung, said the company will hold a shareholder meeting on Friday and will ensure that each shareholder's seat is about two meters apart.
