Tencent added 1.29 billion new code lines in 2019, an increase of 30% compared to 2018.
On March 9, a report released by Tencent stated that its R&D personnel accounted for 66% in 2019. This is also the first time Tencent has disclosed R&D related data since the establishment of the technical committee.
On January 4, 2019, the Tencent Technical Committee was formally established. It was led by Tencent Senior Executive Vice President, President of Technology Engineering Business Group Lu Shan, and Tencent Senior Executive Vice President, Cloud and Smart Industry Group President Tang Daosheng.
It has two project teams: "Open Source Collaboration" and "Self-Researched on the Cloud" and an external open source management office to promote the open sharing and collaborative construction of internal code. And promote the full integration of business on the cloud.
The report shows that Tencent has continued to increase its investment in research and development. In 2019, Tencent's R&D personnel accounted for 66%. Tencent's new R&D projects in 2019 exceeded 3,500, of which the number of ToB projects increased by 77% compared to 2018.

With the rapid development of Tencent's cloud computing and big data-related businesses, the Go language ranks among the top 5 in Tencent's programming language ranking for the first time.
Throughout 2019, the five programming languages that Tencent uses most internally are: C ++, JavaScript, Go, Java, Python.
The report also shows that throughout the year, Tencent open sourced more than 22 projects, including TubeMo's billion-scale distributed messaging middleware, TencentOStiny's self-developed lightweight IoT operating system, TKE Tencent cloud container service, and TBase enterprise-level distributed HTTP Database management systems are all open sourced in 2019.
