MediaTek and Samsung launch the world's first 8K TV with Wi-Fi 6 support

MediaTek announced on Monday that it and Samsung have jointly launched the world's first 8K-resolution QLED TV equipped with MediaTek's custom Wi-Fi 6 chip, the Samsung 8K QLED Y20 (Q950, Q900).

This product is currently the only 8K TV in the world that supports Wi-Fi 6. As the latest wireless connection standard, Wi-Fi 6 has higher transmission throughput and can reduce power consumption, making 8K streaming functions smoother.

Jerry Jen-Chieh Yu, Senior Deputy General Manager of MediaTek and General Manager of Smart Device Business Group, said that the cooperation with Samsung in the field of Wi-Fi 6 and 8K is the beginning of strong demand for advanced network connections and Wi-Fi solutions worldwide.

MediaTek said it will continue to launch Wi-Fi 6 products in key markets such as routers, wireless communications, consumer electronics, gaming, mobile phones and the Internet of Things.
