Huawei Chairman Liang Hua said on Thursday that Huawei will build its first European 5G manufacturing plant in France, according to Reuters.
Earlier this month, Liu Kang, Huawei's chief representative in the European Union, said that Huawei was selecting a site in Europe and preparing to build a factory to produce 5G equipment. Currently, there are several candidate target locations.
Huawei Chairman Liang Hua said that Huawei has chosen to establish its first 5G manufacturing plant in France in France.
Liang Hua said that in the first phase, Huawei will invest 200 million euros (about 217 million US dollars) for the plant, which will create about 500 jobs.
Liang Hua also said at a press conference: "The plant will supply the entire European market, not just the French market." Liang Hua also said that Huawei has explained the plan to the French government.
At present, France is in the early stages of launching a 5G network and has not yet selected a supplier. But the Macron government has said it will give network equipment suppliers, including Huawei, a fair opportunity.
Liu Kang also said earlier this month that Huawei has 20 years of history in Europe since investing in a research and development center in Sweden. In the future, Huawei hopes to integrate more closely with Europe.
Former European Commission Vice President Viviane Reding believes that Huawei's construction of 5G equipment in Europe will significantly increase European confidence in Huawei products.
