In the new product launch event this afternoon, Sony released two flagship phones, Xperia Pro and Xperia 1 โ ก, and a mid-range Xperia 10 II phone.
Sony Xperia Pro
Sony claims that the Sony Xperia Pro is a "technical development" and is still in progress and is tightly integrated with 5G networks and cameras.
Although at first glance it may resemble the new Xperia 1 II phone, the Xperia Pro is more powerful.
Sony's main target is photographers and videographers. Specifically, there is a big issue that needs to be addressed for those users who are transmitting content, especially on-site.
Sony showed the operator Verizon's demo as early as CES 2020, which used Xperia smart devices as a camera's modem to connect it to a broadcast truck.
The Sony Xperia Pro packs this feature and looks as simple as a regular smartphone. It is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, with 8GB memory and 512GB storage space.
Like the Sony Xperia 1 II, the Sony Xperia Pro has three rear cameras and a 3D ToF sensor, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
It comes with a 4000 mAh battery, IP65/68 waterproof and dustproof, and a 6.5-inch 21: 9 4K HDR OLED display with motion blur reduction.
The biggest difference is that in the US market, Sony Xperia 1 II does not support 5G, while Sony Xperia Pro can.
In fact, it has both Sub-6 and mmWave 5G, Sony believes that in the case of professional uplinks, it is worth investing in this field.
Sony Xperia Pro supports 4-way 5G mmWave antennas with beamforming support, which can provide the highest speed. You can install Xperia Pro on top of the camera and transfer live video directly to the editing suite or elsewhere.
The Sony Xperia Pro pushes the screen further, but also makes it more flexible. The HDMI input allows the phone to act as a camera's high-resolution, color-accurate monitor.
Holding it in place and connecting the HDMI input to the camera output, the Sony Xperia Pro can provide a screen that is larger than most cameras and camcorders back panels, but more convenient to carry. There is also a USB-C port for charging.
At present, the time and price of the Xperia Pro is unclear, but it is obviously more expensive than the $ 1,199 for the Sony Xperia 1 II.
Sony Xperia 1 โ ก
The Xperia 1 โ ก (Xperia 1 Mark โ ก) name borrows from Sony's camera business.
In accordance with the usual conventions of Sony's press conference, it officially introduced its camera system immediately after it was officially announced as a 5G mobile phone.
Sony Xperia 1 โ ก released: equipped with Snapdragon 865, 6.5-inch 4K screen
Xperia 1 โ ก is equipped with three rear cameras, all 12MP, corresponding to different focal lengths, and a Sony 3D iTOF sensor.
Xperia 1 โ ก is equipped with a 16mm 12-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture; a 70mm 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture; a 24mm 12-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture; and a 3D iToF.
The camera module combines Sony's Exmor RS sensor and BIONZ processor technology, as well as Zeiss' optical technology.
The Xperia 1 โ ก is equipped with a 6.5-inch HDR OLED screen with a resolution of 3,840 x 1,644, a resolution of 643ppi, an equivalent of 90Hz, and a ratio of 21: 9.
Xperia 1 โ ก is equipped with Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB memory, 256GB flash memory.
It has headphone jack and dual speakers. The battery is 4,000mAh, supports 21W USB-PD charging, and 15W wireless charging.
It measures 166 x 72 x 7.9mm, weighs 181g, and is available in black and purple.
Xperia 1 II will launch in the US for $ 1,099, but it does not support 5G. Sony says it will offer 5G versions for other markets.
Sonyย Xperia 10 II
In addition to the Xperia 1 II and Xperia Pro flagships, Sony also released a mid-range Xperia 10 II, which may be the best-selling product among them.
The Sony Xperia 10 II phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, supplemented by 4GB RAM + 64GB/128GB storage space, three cameras (ultra wide-angle, regular and telephoto) and by far the largest battery in all Sony mid-range phones.
The Sony Xperia 10 II is equipped with a 6-inch OLED panel with a Cinema Wide ratio of 21: 9 and Full HD + resolution.
The three cameras are an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an equivalent focal length of 16mm; a 12MP main camera with PDAF; an 8MP 2x optical zoom telephoto camera, all arranged vertically in the upper left corner. The front camera is an 8MP sensor and is located in a "water drop" in the center of the screen.
Sony claims that the Xperia 10 II is about 10% lighter than the Xperia 10, but wider and taller. The battery is 3,600 mAh, which is more than 25% higher than last year's model.
It also has Xperia Adaptive Charging, which adjusts the battery's charge level to extend battery life. Despite the increased battery capacity, Sony has managed to make the Xperia 10 II thinner than its predecessor.
The device is also waterproof and dustproof, with an IP65/68 protection rating, and is equipped with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and back, but only supports 4G networks.
The Sony Xperia 10 II is available in black, white, mint green, and blue. It is planned to be available in the second quarter of this year, but its exact price has not yet been announced.
