Xie Zhengguang, chairman of Beijing Metro Operation Co., Ltd., said that Beijing is studying using face recognition for subway security check and the tech will be piloted at stations with high passenger traffic.
"A lot of office workers take subways every day, they go through security checks every time at the same lines. Can we provide fast or even exemption of security check?" Beijing Daily quoted Xie Zhengguang as saying.
In the past few years, due to technical limitations, the idea was not pushed forward. But now the technology is completely okay, and the operational problems need to be studied, he said.
"We are exploring a smart security model based on passenger credit, strengthening the construction of passenger credit systems, and establishing a subway 'whitelist' and a rapid security inspection channel system."
Six lines in the central city have achieved a two-minute interval. Line 6 will "run in" for two minutes this year, he said.
"With the expansion of rail transit lines, the operation of new subway lines and the improvement of network transportation capacity, it has helped divert some old lines. For example, east-west lines, according to our statistics, after Line 7 and Line 6 are connected, Passenger traffic on Line 1 has dropped significantly, and the degree of congestion has decreased, "he said.
