There had been rumors that Zheng Gang, the former general manager of BAIC New Energy, has joined Huawei. Today, Zheng confirmed this by taking part in an event for electric vehicles as the chief strategy officer of Huawei Intelligent Vehicle Solutions BU.
In November 2019, there were rumors that Zheng had joined Huawei and would serve as the vice president of Huawei's smart car solutions business unit. Huawei did not confirm the news at the time.
Zheng was appointed Director and General Manager of BAIC New Energy in early 2014. In February 2019, BAIC New Energy issued an announcement that Zheng Gang applied for resignation due to person health reasons and was approved.
In June 2019, Huawei issued an internal document announcing the establishment of a smart car solution BU, which is under the management of the ICT Management Committee.
Huawei said the department's positioning is to provide ICT components and solutions for smart cars to help automakers build good cars.
During this period, Huawei reached strategic cooperation with auto manufacturers such as SAIC, Audi, Foton Motors, Volvo, and BYD, involving many aspects such as intelligent interconnection and 5G.
