WeChat says it's considering allowing users to add more than 5,000 friends-CnTechPost

Allen Zhang (Zhang Xiaolong), the creator of WeChat and senior vice president of Tencent, said on Thursday that his team is considering allowing WeChat users to add more than 5,000 friends.

He said that there is a Dunbar number principle in academy. The maximum number of friends per person is 150. Now it has greatly broken. Nearly 1 million WeChat users have close to 5,000 friends. This forces the WeChat team to consider increasing the number of friends.

In fact, some users can already add more than 5,000 friends.

WeChat lifted the restriction that it is not allowed to add more than 5,000 friends, but the 5,001th and later friends cannot read the Movements update, cnTechPost reported on Wednesday.

When the 5001th friend is added, even manually setting Movements update open to the friend, it will still cannot be set successfully with the prompt message showing that there are already a lot of friends who can see your Movements update.

WeChat is an acquaintance social tool. At first, a limit of up to 5,000 friends was set may be based on the consideration that the user circle of friends generally does not exceed 5,000 people.
