Samsung is set to release a new clamshell foldable smartphone that folds like the Motorola Razr in February before the release of the upcoming flagship Galaxy S11 next year, Yonhap reported Sunday citing industry sources.
The report said Samsung is currently in talks with the South Korea's three mobile carriers to release its second foldable smartphone at home, with a goal of releasing it in February.
Samsung will hold its Unpacked event in the United States in mid-February, where it will provide more details on the new foldable phone, the sources said. The foldable model immediately will be available for sale.
The latest renderings by Waqar Khan (@WaqarKhanHD) show that this phone uses a flip-top folding design.
It uses a paunch-hole screen, and there is a long strip of screen on the outside that can display brief information such as time, power, and notifications. In terms of camera, the main camera is a dual camera design, and it also has a front camera.
Last Week, Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) of XDA released some new content about this device.
Weinbach said that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 still has creases and is horizontal, which indicates that the phone's display may still be plastic. Users can end a phone call by slamming the phone shut.
He also said that his source confirmed the US carriers will have a "F700U" model. There is a small LED display that shows time, date, and battery information. It has dual rear cameras and a front camera.
In terms of price, Max Weinbach revealed that it may be under $1,000, which may mean that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 foldable phone will use mid-range specifications and cameras.
The capacity of its battery may not be optimistic, but it can certainly have a 25W charging function.
