China is expected to have 3 million 5G subscribers by year-end-CnTechPost

There will be 3 million 5G subscribers in China by the end of this year, Wang Zhiqin, vice president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said on Thursday.

Now there are 24 5G mobile phone models in the Chinese market and 7 other 5G terminals, exceeding the industry's imagination, Wang Zhiqin said.

Wang Zhiqin said that the initial development speed of 5G in 2019 exceeded 4G. Globally, the number of networks will reach 60 by the end of the year, the number of device models will exceed 200, the number of base station shipments will reach 1 million, and the number of users will exceed 10 million, all exceeding development expectations.

However, Wang Zhiqin pointed out that the current overall development of 5G is still at an early stage.

On the one hand, the business is mainly based on mobile broadband enhancement scenarios and fixed wireless access scenarios in some countries.

On the other hand, the industry application development is in the preliminary exploration stage, and it has attracted much attention, especially in the fields of medical and industrial Internet.

As the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially issued 5G commercial licenses to China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Radio and Television on June 6, China also officially entered the first year of 5G commercialization.

Then in August, 5G mobile phones also began to land in the domestic market. Huawei Mate20 X 5G version and ZTE AXON 10 PRO 5G versions became the first 5G mobile phones. Compared with the previous 3G and 4G era, the mobile phones support the existing 5G networks of the three major operators.

5G network coverage is also rapidly expanding in cities. China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom have started to cover 5G networks in at least 40 cities.
