Dr. Hu Weiwu, Chief Architect of Loongson, introduced the performance test of Loongson 3A4000 processor in the journal earlier this year. The test was performed on the FPGA simulation platform. The main frequency of the simulation 3A4000 and 3A3000 is 1GHz and the memory controller frequency is 500 MHz, the result is as follows:
Judging from the results, under the same main frequency, Loongson 3A4000 is 48.54% higher in fixed-point performance and 43.77% higher in floating-point performance than 3A3000, and the performance improvement in some tests exceeds 100%.
It should be noted that the above tests have not taken into account the 246-bit vector optimization supported by the Loongson 3A4000 processor. According to the performance test on the X86 platform, the compiler's automatic vectorization optimization can improve the fixed-point performance of the SPECCPU by about 5% and the floating-point performance. What about the performance level advantage of Loongson 3A3000? Dr. Hu Weiwu also compared the performance of the AMD K10 processor at 1.5GHz. The single-core and quad-core performance at the same frequency are basically at the same level as the K10.
In other words, the Loongson 3A4000 processor โs IPC performance has exceeded 50% of AMD โs K10 processor, but the actual frequency of AMD โs K10 processor is very high. Dr. Hu Weiwu said that on this basis, if the more advanced process technology is used to increase the main frequency to 2.5 ~ 3.0GHz, the general processing performance of Loongson CPU can reach the level of the international mainstream CPU.
According to Loongsonโs official roadmap, Loongson 3A4000 will be followed by Loongson 3A5000 (the server version is Loongson 3B5000), which is still a 4-core or 16-core GS464V architecture, but the process technology is upgraded to 12nm and the frequency is increased to 2.5GHz.
