The Huawei DevEco Studio "Trial Application" has recently been opened by the Huawei Developer Alliance, and developers can finally participate in it.

Huawei DevEco Studio (DevEco Studio for short) is an integrated development environment provided by Huawei's Consumer Business Department for developers. It aims to help developers use the open capabilities of Huawei terminals quickly, easily, and efficiently.

DevEco Studio has basic functions such as project management, code editing, compilation and construction, debugging and simulation, and supports Huawei's open capability packages (such as interconnection, HiAI, security, HiCar, HMS) and other functions.

At the Huawei Developer Conference in August 2019, Huawei released this IDE platform and plans to provide a trial version by the end of 2019.

Developers can search for Huawei Developer Alliance, log in to the official website of Huawei Developer Alliance, enter [Development]-[Development Tools]-[Huawei DevEco Studio], and click [Trial Application] to use.

What features does this trial version have?

"This open invitation invites the Beta version to be customized and developed based on the IntelliJ IDEA Community open source version. In addition to providing basic application development functions, it also integrates Huawei's open capability kits, remote real machine debugging and application cloud testing. Further integration of Huawei's distributed capabilities, development of multiple terminal deployments at once ... "

From the official instructions and simple experience, there are several points worth mentioning:

1. Based on IntelliJ IDEA open source version customization, development habits do not need to change

DevEco Studio, like Android Studio, is also based on the IntelliJ IDEA Community open source community edition. Therefore, basic development and debugging functions, such as new project templates, terminal emulators, layout editors, drag-and-drop UI controls and previews, commissioning, code base management, and more.

DevEco Studio requires no new learning or changes to use. If you are an Android Studio user, you can quickly and smoothly transition to DevEco Studio.

2. Built-in EMUI open capability one-stop development and management

DevEco Studio deeply integrates the open capabilities of Huawei EMUI, including HiAI, multimedia, interconnection, etc., and provides "Kit Manager" for one-stop management. The development process is very simple. Select the corresponding Kit to introduce the project, eliminating much of the work that depends on manual addition.

Among many functions, a function called "Kit Assistant" is particularly recommended, which can provide reference and code samples for the API of the main function, and supports one-click dragging to insert code samples into source code files and call them directly. The functional effect is very good.

3.All-in-one testing and quality analysis capabilities

The Remote Devices function provides 5000+ Huawei's full range of remote real machine testing capabilities, free online 7 * 24 hours, and responds anytime, anywhere, which can fully meet the developers' real machine test resource requirements, and is no longer limited to simulator testing;

App CloudTest supports automated testing of native applications, hybrid applications, and gaming applications, covering multiple test scenarios such as compatibility, stability, performance, power consumption, security, and multi-language.

DFX testing can achieve accurate detection, and at the same time provide non-intrusive APP quality analysis services, covering indicators such as Crash, ANR, startup time, frame loss, startup freeze, etc. All services can be completed on one platform.

How far is it from "one development, multiple deployments"?

At present, it is common practice in the industry to set up a separate development team for each type of equipment and develop and adapt to different terminals. But at the Huawei Developer Conference in August, an important feature released by DevEco Studio is support for 1 + 8 + N full-scenario multi-terminal application and software development, enabling one-time development and multi-terminal deployment.

Provide a unified UI programming framework and a distributed application programming framework. Only a set of code needs to be developed and maintained to solve the problem of multi-device adaptation, which effectively reduces the development difficulty and technical threshold.

However, from the current Beta version, this feature is not yet supported, and should be provided in subsequent Beta versions.

From the Beta version, the basic idea of Huawei DevEco Studio is to stand on the shoulders of giants of IntelliJ IDEA and add Huawei's customized services, such as EMUI open capabilities, remote real machine, cloud testing and other enhanced functions.

In the future, key features such as multi-terminal deployment will be gradually expanded. It should be a very pragmatic path.

This road is reminiscent of a sentence that Dr. Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software said at the time of the release: "Software engineering technology is particularly like a production line in the hardware field. Without a strong production line, it is impossible to knock it out manually. Ship carrier. I hope that Huawei DevEco Studio can be like a huge container, which can accumulate the experience of all excellent software coders and provide developers with increasingly powerful tools. "
