Spanish telecom operator Telefonica has decided to use Huawei equipment in its 5G core network, according to Reuters.
Huawei previously provided 2G and 4G equipment for Telefonica, but unlike before, Telefonica stated that it will look for a second telecommunications supplier other than Huawei next year.
Portugal also seems to be planning to give Huawei a green light, and in the face of the United States' call for a boycott of Huawei, Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos said that suppliers will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Altice Portugal, Portugal's largest telecommunications company, has partnered with Huawei to develop its 5G network and hopes to launch 5G services next year.
As of now, Huawei has participated in the initial 5G deployment of operators in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Italy.
