On the surface, 5G is about network speed and deployment scale. But in its core, 5G is a competition of standards and patents. In this regard, Huawei is far ahead.
According to statistics from IPlytics, in terms of the world's 5G essential patents, Huawei ranked first with 3,325 applications, Samsung ranked second with 2,846, and LG ranked third with 2,463. Next to them are Nokia, Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE, Ericsson, Qualcomm and Intel.
It's worth noting the review of intellectual property works is a long process, and less than half of Huawei's patent applications are approved so far.
In terms of authorized approvals, Samsung and Nokia took the top two spots, while LG and Huawei are ranked third or fourth.
In addition to standard patents, Huawei, the world's largest communications equipment company, is also leading in terms of shipments of 5G base stations.
According to public data, Huawei has signed more than 60 5G contracts and shipped 400,000 5G base stations.
Huawei is expected to produce 1.5 million base stations next year, which doubles the number of this year. It will sell 2 million base stations in the next two years, including products that do not use US components at all.
