Report: German operator to remove Huawei within 2 years

Germany telecom operator Deutsche Telekom wants to remove Huawei from core network within 2 years in responding to what it claims as "security risks."

"Within two years, the proportion of Asian components will be zero percent," loacal newspaper WirtschaftsWoche reported Wednesday citing the company as saying.

Currently the company is still using Huawei components in the core network, but that is to be changed. "Every three to five years, we change the technology anyway."

In the future, the company intends to buy from US suppliers, such as the database provider Oracle, instead of purchasing them from Huawei as part of solutions.

Huawei get a new 90-day extension from the US to allow US firms to continue doing business with it.

Huawei said on Monday that the latest extension would not "have a substantial impact on Huawei's business either way".

"This decision does not change the fact that Huawei continues to be treated unfairly either," Huawei said.
