WhatsApp has been severely draining battery life on OnePlus smartphones, according to users who have reported this issue across Reddit, the OnePlus forums, and even in the Play Store.
Some users have reported WhatsApp was drastically draining their batteries by 40% or more after hardly using the app at all.
In one example on Reddit, a user said a week ago he noticed that the battery on his OnePlus 6 started draining faster than usual. This coincided with an update of WhatsApp - the one with fingerprint unlock.
The user said his phone strangely shows that WhatsApp used battery "While in active use" for 1.5 hours, which is not true since only opened the app for a minute.
On OnePlus forums, people were also intensively reporting this issue.
People have also been giving WhatsApp 1-Star Reviews on Google play, describing the same issue.
It’s worth noting this issue isn't being seen across all OnePlus devices, only on phones using Android 9 and 10 — which is a large swath of OnePlus smartphones.
It doesn't appear to be every one that uses WhatsApp on their OnePlus phones, but it does seem to be a reasonably high number of users — even some Xiaomi users are reporting this issue as well.
