QQ is one of the most popular messenger apps in China. It's widely used on Windows and Mac platforms, but if you prefer to use Linux, then the experience of using QQ was not that good, untill today.

Tencent, the company behind QQ and WeChat, rolled out the updated QQ for Linux on Thursday, 11 years after it first released the application on the platform.

The latest update supports x64ใ€ARM64 and MIPS64 platform, a sign that Tencent has not completly left Linux users behind.

You can download QQ for Linux here: link.

Tencent also provided some examples on how to install it by command lines:

sudo ./linuxqq_1.0.1-b1-100_x86_64.sh

sudo rpm -ivh linuxqq_1.0.1-b1-100_mips64el.rpm

sudo dpkg -i linuxqq_1.0.1-b1-100_armhf.deb

sudo apt install -y /path/to/linuxqq_1.0.1-b1-100_amd64.deb

sudo pacman -U linuxqq_1.0.1-ci-94_x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

If you need to remove it after installing, you can also use the following command lines:

sudo rpm -e linuxqq

sudo dpkg -r linuxqq

The move is Tencent's latest support to the open source community.

In June 2018, the Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, announced Tencent has become the latest Platinum member of the foundation.

Tencent is a leading provider of Internet value added services in China, offering some of China's most popular websites, apps and services including QQ, Qzone, Tencent Cloud and Weixin/WeChat.

Tencent's Liu Xin will join The Linux Foundation Board of Directors, the foundation said.

In addition to a seat on the board, as a Platinum member, Tencent will be able to take advantage of the foundation's expertise in areas such as open source governance, legal and compliance, events, marketing and more.

As a Platinum member, Tencent will be able to offer further support and resources to a wide variety of open source projects and their communities.
