Prefer small phones? K-Touch M17 offers a new choice in China

Phone manufacturers today tend to build phones large enough to be entertaining, but there are also those who began to do the opposite with K-Touch M17 one of them.

The M17, a 3.46-inch smartphone made by Chinese phone maker K-Touch, has recently been certified by China's CCC agency, making it the second small screen phone certified within one week.

The M17โ€™s dimensions are 113.8ร—45.3ร—9mm and weighs only 81 grams. The design looks similiar to the luxury phone Vertu but specifications show it wonโ€™t be a phone that fast enough for daily use per the website of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Here are the details:

  • Resolution: 340ร—800
  • System: Android 8.1
  • CPU: 1.5 GHz
  • Storage: 3GB+32GB/6GB+64GB
  • Camera: 8+13 Megapixels
  • Battery: 1260mAh

Just two days ago, cnTechPost noted that documents on the website of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show the Palm Phone, which is produced by TCL, has been certified by TENAA.

The TENAA listing says the phone runs on the Snapdragon 435 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.

The phone sports a tiny 3.3-inch display, but it has a rather high resolution of 720p. That works or to a very high pixel density.

It runs on Android Oreo with extensive modifications, and an update seems unlikely.

While this device carries the iconic Palm name, it's actually a TCL phone. Like it's deal with BlackBerry, TCL licensed the Palm name and designed a phone around the brand.

The Palm Phone is, well, Palm-sized. It runs Android and has almost the full feature set of a larger phone, but it's all tucked away underneath the simplified UI. For example, the home screen is just a block of scrolling icons.

It has been available for a few months to Verizon customers and on a few international carriers.

The idea behind it is compelling: instead of carrying your attention-sucking phone around, you can carry this tiny thing. It shares your phone number, but it doesnโ€™t share all of the apps and social media angst you have on your main phone.
