As of 9:30 am Wednesday, China Mobile saw 5.922 million users register for its 5G package. The number for smaller players China Telecom and China Unicom were 2.078 million and 2.003 million respectively, bringing the total to 10 million.
As cnTechPost mentioned Tuesday, it's just a matter of time for China's 5G pre-subscription to break one and another key level.
As 5G commercial use looms in China, user participation is rising fast.
All three carriers have offered incentives to encourage consumers to sign up for 5G services early. China Mobile has offered a 30 per cent discount to users who have been in its network for more than five years, and a 20 per cent discount to those in its network for less than that period.
Note that the full-scale launch of 5G commercial use is yet to start, and the figures is still a measure of userโs willingness and the final results would differ.
โThe 10 million figure just reflects the number of pre-orders, no official prices have been released for 5G services and users so far have only had to click, not pay anything,โ Wang Xi, a research manager at IDC China, told the South China Morning Post.
โThere are several 5G phones currently available โฆ but so far popularity has not taken off โฆ We think some unique use-cases are needed to stimulate further 5G demand.โ Wang said.
