The Integrated Circuit schools at China's top universities Peking University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology were established on Thursday and Wednesday, respectively, the third and fourth Chinese universities to set up the schools within six months.
Peking University said the establishment of the IC school can promote the development of China's IC disciplines, deepen multidisciplinary cross-fertilization and accelerate joint training of IC talents.
Miao Xiangshui, dean of Huazhong University of Science and Technology's IC School, said the school will break down disciplinary barriers, make breakthroughs in key technologies and cultivate talent that China needs.
The school will support the development of independent innovation in China's IC business, building memory, sensors, optoelectronic chips, displays, compound semiconductors, and other directions, Miao said.
Tsinghua University, also a top university, already set up an IC school in April, which is considered a corresponding move after "integrated circuit science and engineering" was set up as a first-class discipline by China's Ministry of Education in July last year.
Before Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Guangdong University of Technology, Anhui University and Sun Yat-sen University also set up IC schools.
