Hurun Research Institute released the Hurun China Philanthropy List 2021 on May 11, showing that 39 Chinese philanthropists have given more than 100 million dollars, with Colin Huang, founder of the e-commerce platform Pinduoduo, topping the list with RMB 12 billion ($1.87 billion) in donations.

Huang previously joined the Pinduoduo founding team in donating 2.37% of his shares to establish the Prosperity Charity Foundation to promote social responsibility and scientific research.

He Xiangjian, founder of Chinese home appliance giant Midea Group, and his family ranked second with a donation of RMB 6.3 billion.

Hui Ka Yan, the founder of Chinese real estate giant Evergrande Group, ranked third with a donation of RMB 2.4 billion.

The top ten philanthropists on the list are all on this year's Hurun Global Rich List. With the exception of Huang in the first place, they donated an average of 0.9% of their average fortune.

The education sector continues to have the highest number of donors, with 39 %of the total, up from 31% last year.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, the medical field increased from 17% last year to 27%, making it the second most giving field.
