Tencent on March 2 unveiled Max, its first multimodal quadruped robot with software and hardware both developed by itself.
Max adopts Tencent Robotics X Lab's solution, which has both legs and wheels and can switch its form in different environments.
The robot can run, jump and leap over obstacles like an animal, and can also glide on wheels like a vehicle on a flat road.
With the help of a special wheeled structure, the robot dog can glide at speeds of up to 25km/h.
Max integrated nonlinear model predictive control algorithm, quadratic programming optimization, compliance control algorithm, can go from lying on the ground to standing on two wheels, with balance anti-disturbance and landing leg collection control, according to Tencent.
Max continues the robust control algorithm of the previous generation of robot dog Jamoca, with an average calculation time of less than 0.3ms, and can resume normal operation on its own even if it suffers a big impact fall, the company said.
Max can stand and move from quadrupedal to bipedal and can backflip.
Max is expected to play a role in robot patrol, security, rescue, and other fields, Tencent said.
