Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Vivo may launch phones with prices over RMB 10,000 ($1,550) this year, according to a well-known Weibo blogger.
The blogger, @数码闲聊站, said the companies may be capitalizing on the popularity trend of foldable phones to do this test run.
Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, also hinted at this plan. He said on Weibo on February 3: "If Xiaomi launches a phone priced over RMB 10,000, will you buy it?" Xiaomi may have more news about this at its February 7 event.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB is priced at over RMB 10,000, PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 40 RS is priced at RMB 11,999 to RMB 13,999, and OPPO Find X2 Pro Automobili Lamborghini Edition is priced at RMB 12,999.
Back in 2019, Xiaomi announced Mi MIX Alpha, a wrap-around screen concept phone, priced at RMB 19,999, but the phone was not mass-produced for the market.
